12 Life Lessons from "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom

"Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom is an account of the events Albom experienced between graduation and the reunion with his professor. The name Morrie comes from its meaning in Hebrew, which means "my teacher.

Newspaper sports columnist Mitch Albom recounts the time spent with his 78-year-old sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz, at Brandeis University, who was dying.

I, hereby, list down my Top 12 learnings from this epic book. These learnings are worded and appended in a way that makes it easier for most of us to understand and absorb.

So, here we go with the list of 12 of my Book Lessons from this book that influenced me immensely.

(1) Silence is not embarrassing. In fact no one knows whats there in the noise. If you are a silent introvert, that is just perfectly fine.

(2) If you are not chasing your dream or passion, you are wasting your life. So many people do that half asleep, thinking what they are doing is important.

(3) Love others, do something for the society around you, and chase your dreams.

(4) You need someone to probe you along in the right direction in life - what satisfies you at the end of life? Doing mundane activities for 80 years that everyone does - or creating something that not many people can - This probing will not happen automatically - you will need a teacher, a mentor, a companion.

(5) We are too involved in materialistic things, and they don't satisfy us. The relationships that we have, the universe around us, we take these things for granted.

(6) People have not found the meaning of their lives, and they are running around - fast. To find the same - they are looking all around - in the new car, new house, job etc. When they find these things as empty, they keep running. They missed just one place.

(7) People just want to be genuinely listened about them, their lives, their deeds, their achievements. If anyone can listen to them carefully, with full attention, without judgement, that person will always be great in their eyes.

(8) Friends are great, but they are probably not going to be with you when you are coughing up whole night and need help, it is only going to be someone who genuinely loves you.

(9) Our beginning and end is the same. So, forget competition on any worldly things. What we do in between is all that makes the difference. Can we transform ourselves to be better by the end? And you know what, the end is the next beginning - so there is where you should compete - transforming yourself.

(10) # 1 in academics, # 1 at work, # 1 everywhere - but whats wrong with being # 2 ? Nothing, its perfectly ok.{ Recommended Book --> Happiness Unlimited }

(11) Tears are ok.

(12) You live on. You never die. You live on in the hearts of people whose life you have impacted.

Have you experienced some of these earlier?
Do you have more such Lessons in life which can spark great results? If yes, write to me, and I will update my blog with the ones I feel go well with the topic.
